RABBI KESSLER’S CARAVAN OF JEWISH LEARNING AT HHBJC

FALL-WINTER SEMESTER  – 2018-2019

All aboard…Rabbi Kessler’s Class to Open on Tuesday evening October 23, 2018 at 8 PM

Classes will meet Tuesday evenings from 8-9:15 PM following Minyan at 7:30 PM

“Everything you wanted to know about Judaism but were afraid to ask”
Open to all who want to learn Basic Judaism! 

This exciting course will feature The Book of Jewish Belief and will be devoted to a lecture/discussion on the practical aspects of Jewish life:

*What is Judaism?                                   *Jewish Movements
*The Torah, Mitzvot, Bible                    *Holocaust: Do Jews dwell on it too much or not enough
*Belief in G_d: If God foresees everything we’re going to do, how can we have free will?
*Israel                                                            *Marriage & Family
*The Messianic Idea                                 *Compassion
*Chosen People: Can we still call ourselves “chosen” and still believe all humankind is equal?
*Benevolence: For instance there are times when visiting the sick may not be a Mitzvah

*Justice: Following the letter of the law is not enough
*Shabbat/Festivals                                     *Rabbinic Literature
*The Hereafter: What Judaism says about life after death, and what it does not say

Course Objectives:
*To help you  understand what Judaism believes on particular subjects.
*To relate Jewish beliefs to life today
*To clarify personal beliefs on particular subjects so the individual can decide how to apply Jewish beliefs to one’s personal life.
