It’s just around the corner! This year’s “SALUTE TO ISRAEL CONCERT” will beA NIGHT TO REMEMBER….A spectacular evening filled with Elegance & Sophistication. This will be an event you will never forget! SAVE THE DATE…SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 10, 2013 at 7:00 pm at the LEFRAK CONCERT HALL at QUEENS COLLEGE. You will hear so many different flavors of music…..Israeli, Chassidic, Pop, Opera, Broadway, Yiddish & Cantorial. All of the performers are so versatile and will bring you a whole array of selections, as sung in their own inimitable style.
Let me tell you a little about the world renowned Jewish Musicians and Stars that will be performing. Lt. Col. SHAI ABRAMSON was appointed Chief Cantor of the Israeli Defense Forces in 2007 (the fifth in the history of the IDF). In his official capacity, Lt. Col. Abramson officiates at formal National ceremonies, prayer services & memorials. He also performs worldwide, participating in events under the auspices of the Israeli Ministry of Defense, the Knesset and other Government agencies. His beautiful and sweet voice, together with his prominent role in the IDF and his warm personality, have afforded him the rare opportunity to perform with the intention of developing and strengthening ties with Jewish communities across the globe. You will feel like you have chartered a private plane to Israel, as you sit back and listen to his sweet voice and feel his love of Israel.
CANTOR NETANEL HERSTIK is the Cantor of the Hampton Synagogue. Netanel comes from a long line of Cantors, so I guess it is in his genes. He performs on concert stages all over the world demonstrating his musical versatility as well as his wide range of musical styles. He received much of his musical education from the Tel Aviv Cantorial Institute, the school where his father (world renowned Cantor Naftali Herstik) is the Director and one of its founders. We will all enjoy the excitement and flair with which Netanel will perform.
I am also very excited that we will have a Full Symphony Orchestra (NEW YORK PHILHARMONIC SYMPHONY) accompanying all of the performers, under the Direction of the world renowned Conductor & Composer, DR. MORDECHAI SOBOL (one of the conductors of the Israeli Philharmonic). Dr. Sobol is a leading force in the world of Jewish music today. He is the director of the Yuval Symphony Orchestra and Chorus in Tel Aviv. Through his work and efforts, he has raised the standards of Jewish music throughout the world. Mordechai is not only a world renowned Conductor of symphonies, but he is also a brilliant composer. His musical orchestrations are simply breathtaking. Speaking of Mordechai Sobol…let me also tell you a little bit about his son, OFIR SOBOL, the Musical Producer of the concert. Ofir follows in the footsteps of his father as being one of the most musically gifted individuals in the world of Jewish music today. Ofir studied orchestration at the Tel Aviv Academy of Music. He is sought after by musical artists & performers all over the world for his unique musical arrangements. Ofir combines new and old, east and west, with contemporary techniques, yet without losing the authenticity of the music.
A very special guestwill join us on stage at the concert. He grew up in Hollis Hills and joins us in Shul every year for Rosh Hashanah & Yom Kippur. You may have seen him on the TODAY show. Yes…it’s DONNY DEUTSCH. But he’s not going to sing!
Oh yes…I almost forgot to mention…I will also be performing.
Our own Michael Borman will be the MC. Joan Waxgiser will be the HHJC Co-Chairperson.
