March Youth Group News

February was a great month at H2I! We started off our month with METNY Palooza at ICCJ, an event that brought together almost 200 high schoolers from all over the metropolitan NY area for a Battle of the Grades and a scavenger hunt through Grand Central Station. Immediately preceding that event was METNY’s annual Freshman Shabbaton, at which 70 ninth graders celebrated Shabbat together.

Our month continued on Friday, February 6 with our second of three H2I Shabbat programs. After Shabbat Mincha, Seudah Shlishit, and Ma’ariv and Havdalah in November at Hollis Hills, it was ICCJ’s turn to host—this session included Kabbalat Shabbat services and Friday night dinner. A great time was had by all who attended! Later that weekend, our groups took part in our second annual Tu B’Shvat Ice Cream Seder, in which we celebrated the holiday with a fun twist on the traditional Tu B’Shvat seder.

After Mid-Winter break, our month concluded on Feburary 27-28 as Hillcrest hosted our annual Chapter USY Shabbaton. Like our Chapter Kadima Shabbaton, this program was made possible through a micro-grant from The Jewish Education Project, an agency committed to sparking and spreading innovations that expand the reach and increase the impact of Jewish education. We are very grateful to The Jewish Education Project for providing this grant for the second year in a row to enable this excellent programming.

In March, our Sunday programming moves to Hillcrest for the remainder of our year. Details on the calendar should now be available online at www.h2iyouthgroup.org, but the highlight of the month is our Purim Carnival on Sunday, March 8 from 12-3 PM at Hillcrest. We hope to see everyone there for an afternoon of fun, food, and prizes! Later in the month, Hillcrest will be hosting the first ever Sababa Spring Kinnus, in which teens from all over NYC and the greater metropolitan area will come together for an amazing Shabbat experience.

As always, please feel free to be in touch if you have any questions about our programming!
